she was already mentally disturbed in the beginning of the movie. But all the hallucinations were stronger and more frightening when she was training herself for the premiere ...

Getting the role pushed Nina further down a road she was already travelling along. And it isn't so much the black swan role, but the tension between the white swan role (ie goodness, perfection) and the black swan role (ie wildness, freedom).

Erica said she had stopped scratching herself, she only started again because the stress of the role. If she didn't get it I think she would have been just fine (for a while, at least).
